Why we use real photos instead of stock photos

By Max & Daniel · Updated 23 September 2026

We'll often ask you for photos of yourself, your van and jobs you've done, even if they're just from your phone. Here's why a slightly imperfect real photo beats a perfect stock photo every time.

People can spot stock photos

Everyone has seen the smiling tradie in a spotless hard hat giving a thumbs up. Customers recognise stock photos, and when they do, they start wondering what else on your site isn't real.

People trust faces

Before someone lets you into their home, they want to know who's turning up. A photo of you and your team makes you a real person instead of just a business name. It's one of the simplest ways to build trust before they've even spoken to you.

Your work is your proof

Photos of real jobs (a finished bathroom, a neat switchboard, a clean site after you've left) show customers what they'll get. Before-and-after photos are especially strong because they show the difference you make.

Where we put them

  • A photo of you near the top, so people see who they're dealing with
  • Job photos next to each service, so people see that exact kind of work
  • Photos near your reviews, so the praise has a face attached

Tips for taking your own

  • Use your phone in good daylight, and wipe the lens first
  • Take photos of finished jobs before you pack up
  • Get a couple of you and your van or team, looking at the camera
  • Hold the phone sideways for photos that fill the screen on a desktop

Got a camera roll full of jobs? We'll turn it into a website that wins work.
