Why is my phone number at the top of every page?

On most sites we build, your phone number is at the top of every page, and on a phone there's a call button that follows people as they scroll. Here's why that matters so much for a trade business.
Your customers want to call, not browse
Someone with a burst pipe or a tripped switchboard isn't looking to read about your company history. They want to know you do the job, you're nearby, and how to call you. The quicker they find your number, the more likely they call you instead of the next result on Google.
The top right corner is where people look
People have learned from years of using websites that contact details usually live at the top, often in the right-hand corner. Putting your number where they expect it means they don't have to think. Every second someone spends hunting is a chance for them to hit the back button.
Why it's a button, not just text
On a phone, your number is set up so one tap starts the call. Nobody wants to memorise a number, swap apps and type it in. One tap removes that effort.
Why it follows you down the page on mobile
A customer might decide to call halfway down the page, after seeing a review or a photo of a job like theirs. A call button that stays on screen means the decision and the action happen at the same moment.
