Why your website has one big button (not ten)

By Max & Daniel · Updated 23 September 2026

You might notice your site keeps asking visitors to do one thing, like "Get a free quote" or "Call now". That's on purpose. Giving people fewer choices gets you more enquiries.

Too many choices means no choice

When people are faced with lots of options, they often put off deciding. It's the same on a website. If your homepage has buttons for Facebook, Instagram, your newsletter, your blog, your gallery and a quote form, visitors don't know what to do first, and many do nothing.

We pick the one thing that makes you money

For most tradies that's a phone call or a quote request. So that's the button we make big, bright and easy to find, and we repeat it down the page so it's there whenever someone's ready.

Why it's a different colour

Your main button is usually the boldest colour on the page. It's not about a colour being magic; it's about contrast. If the button stands out from everything around it, people's eyes go straight to it.

Why the words on the button matter

"Submit" tells people nothing. "Get my free quote" tells them exactly what they'll get. Buttons that describe the result get more clicks than ones that describe the action.
