Why does my website look different on my phone?

By Max & Daniel · Updated 23 September 2026

Open your site on a computer and then on your phone, and things move around: columns stack, the menu turns into a button, and some things appear in a different order. That's not a bug. It's built that way on purpose.

Most of your customers are on their phone

For most local businesses, and especially tradies, the majority of visitors are on a phone. So we design the phone version first, then make it work on bigger screens. That's what "mobile-first" means.

What changes on a phone

  • Side-by-side sections stack on top of each other, so nothing is squashed
  • The menu tucks into a button (the three lines) to save space
  • Buttons get bigger so they're easy to tap with a thumb
  • The call button stays on screen as people scroll
  • The most important things are moved higher up the page

Google checks the phone version

Google mainly looks at the mobile version of your site when deciding where to rank it. A site that's clunky on a phone can hold you back on Google even if it looks great on a computer.

Always check on your phone

When we show you your new site, have a look on your phone first. That's how most of your customers will see it.

Does your current site fall apart on a phone? We'll rebuild it free so you can compare.
