Wix, a freelancer or an agency? Here's the honest answer

There are three usual ways to get a small business website: do it yourself, hire a freelancer, or pay an agency. Each one suits a different kind of business. Here's how to choose.
Doing it yourself (Wix, Squarespace and similar)
Best for: businesses on a tight budget with an owner who enjoys tinkering. You pay a monthly subscription, and you do all the work: design, writing, photos, updates and SEO. The real cost is your time, often many evenings, and the result depends on how much of it you have.
Hiring a freelancer
Best for: businesses that want a custom site without agency prices. Quality varies enormously. Great freelancers are some of the best value around; others disappear after launch or quietly outsource the work. Check their past sites, ask who builds them, and ask what happens when you need a change next year.
Paying an agency
Best for: larger businesses with complex needs and the budget to match. You get a team, a process and usually good results, but you pay for all of it. For a standard five-page small business site, an agency is often more than you need.
Side by side
- Cost: DIY is cheapest in dollars, agencies cost the most, freelancers are in between
- Your time: DIY takes the most, agencies and freelancers take the least
- Quality: DIY depends on you, freelancers vary widely, agencies are usually consistent
- Risk: DIY and agencies are predictable, freelancers are the biggest gamble
What we do
We sit between a freelancer and an agency: two founders, a proper process and fixed prices. We remove the risk by building your site first. You see it live, and you only pay if you love it.
Not sure which way to go? Let us build it free and decide once you've seen it.
