Tradies: your customers are Googling you. What do they find?

By Max & Daniel · Updated 23 September 2026

Before a customer lets a tradie into their home, most of them look you up. Word of mouth still matters, but even a referral usually gets checked on Google first. Here's what they're looking for, and how to make sure they find it.

Try it yourself

Search your business name, then search your trade plus your suburb (for example "electrician Dee Why"). Do it on your phone. What comes up? Is it you, a competitor, or an old directory listing with the wrong number?

What customers want to see

  • That you're real, local and licensed
  • Photos of jobs you've actually done
  • Reviews from real customers
  • The areas you service
  • An easy way to call or ask for a quote

What puts them off

  • No website at all, just a Facebook page
  • A site that's broken or slow on mobile
  • No reviews, or reviews with no replies
  • A different phone number on Google and on your website

Fix your Google Business Profile first

Your Google Business Profile is what shows up on the map. It's free, and for most tradies it brings in more calls than anything else. Our Google Maps guide walks through setting it up.

Then give them a website worth clicking

Once someone finds you on Google, most will tap through to your website before they call. A fast, simple site with your services, your areas, your reviews and a big call button is what turns that search into a job.
